Picking errors reduced by up to 90%

“Following the introduction of the Axcite Pocket barcode reading system in Dynamics AX, the number of picking errors has been reduced by up to 90 percent,” says Project Manager Martin Andersen, HydraSpecma.

“The implementation has helped streamline our processes and make our work more precise. We have reviewed the entire warehouse organisation and received a lot of input into how we can perform our tasks most efficiently.”

The solution from Bredana Axcite moves all the Dynamics AX functionality out into hand-held scanners, so picking for orders and production is registered in real time in the system. All transactions are scanned, and the system prevents picking errors by guiding the employee through the process.

Easier to maintain high customer satisfaction

“The drop in the number of errors means that we save a lot of money, as returned items and replacement shipments are expensive. Just as importantly, customer satisfaction is maintained at a high level or increased when we ship the right product every time,” says Department Manager Holger Tylvad, who helped to introduce Axcite Supply Chain in the warehouse.

He also highlights real-time updates to the warehouse as one of the major benefits:

“Before we got the Bredana Axcite solution, our warehouse did not match the system data and it took some time before the inventory was updated with new stock following a transaction. This meant that a warehouse worker could go to a location to pick a product, and find it had already been picked for a customer or for production. Then we had to work out what had happened. This consumed a lot of time,” says Holger Tylvad.

Sales orders are created and processed from handheld scanners

HydraSpecma has its main warehouse in Skjern, and a smaller warehouse in Greve.

In Greve, a number of customers collect their own goods from the warehouse. The system therefore supports pickup orders in an intelligent way.

“Our employees can create pickup orders directly from a handheld scanner while standing in the warehouse with the customer,” says Holger Tylvad.

When the employee has scanned the location and product, they will be told if it has been reserved for another customer. If this is the case, it cannot be picked.

Before Bredana’s solution it was difficult to handle pickup orders. Now everything is handled digitally and directly in Dynamics AX.

Far easier receipt of goods

One of the places the Bredana Axcites solution is most visible is goods reception.

The hard copy lists that had to be printed and checked off when a consignment of goods arrived have been replaced by scanning using a handheld scanner, and the subsequent data entry work is also no longer necessary.

“It’s much easier to receive goods using handheld scanners, and it means products are visible in the system as soon they are put on the shelf,” says Holger Tylvad.

Operations workshop ensured that everyone was ready

Bredana Axcites’s solution was only launched after an ‘operations workshop’ was held, to ensure that the organisation was ready.

Logistics are critical for HydraSpecma. So everything had to run smoothly from the first minute.

“We are very satisfied with our collaboration with Bredana Axcite. The consultants are Dynamics AX experts. They understand our business – and challenge our thinking,” says Martin Andersen.

He notes that project expectations were also regularly reconciled.

Following implementation of the warehouse system, Bredana Axcite is looking at other Dynamics AX areas in order to optimise the company’s operations across the board.
